The Discovery Class serves students in reading and language arts who have been identified as having gifted reading and cognitive ability as defined by the Ohio Department of Education. All students participating in the gifted program must be identified as gifted. To maintain the integrity of the program, students need to have a gifted or high cognitive score in order to perform at an advanced level to handle the challenge of the class and to keep up with the rest of the students.
· Placement is based on the most current scores on state-approved nationally-normed standardized tests.· There are numerous assessments that can be used to identify a student for a gifted service. The attached document lists current state-approved assessments and the scores necessary for identification.

Students who have a cognitive score of 128 or above AND a reading score of 95% or above.
