GES Weekly Newsletter

GES Families,

Registration is now open for the Kids Heart Challenge! Our community counts on lifesavers like you! Please sign your students up for our Kids Heart Challenge so they can learn how to keep their hearts and brains healthy while raising funds to help kids with special hearts. By completing Finn’s Mission, they’ll also learn the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR and how to recognize the signs of a stroke. Registration can be completed by downloading the app or scanning the QR code below. Please feel free to reach out to Mr. Ward, [email protected], with any questions.

Have a great weekend!

GES SCHOOL NEWS

ACE LEADER TRAIT FOR THE WEEK

Blue Ace Leaders greet others with hola, buenas días, or buenas tardes.

THANK YOU, GES!

We collected 1,541 cans of soup and other foods for Food Pantry Network of Licking County! What a great demonstration of empathy and responsibility by all of our amazing Ace Leaders. While the cans did not make it all they way from the first-grade pod to the music room (we were really close), this is still an impressive accomplishment and one the GES community should be very proud of! Click here for a video of "the can train" so you can see what over 1,000 donated cans of food looks like!

TECHNOLOGY REMINDER

Many students come to school with smart watches or cell phones. If at any time these devices become a distraction, they may be placed in bookbags or turned into administration until a guardian can retrieve them. Students are not to be using the devices during the school day for communication of any kind. If your child has an electronic device that comes to school, please review the guidelines in the GES/GIS Student Handbook (click here, pg. 30).

COUNSELOR'S CORNER

STRATEGY OF THE MONTH

Students will learn about positive self-talk and affirmations when I visit them this month. They will hear examples of how to flip a negative thought into a positive thought. Using positive thoughts regularly can bring positive changes on a daily basis.

CLASSROOM LESSONS IN FEBRUARY

Kindergarten: This month students will learn about peer pressure. They will learn how to communicate in an assertive way and discuss other ideas of how to handle peer pressure. They will also review healthy things to do with friends.

First Grade: This month first graders will have a lesson on managing disappointment. They will learn how to handle disappointing situations with positive thoughts and responses instead of negative thoughts and responses.

Second Grade: Second graders will have a lesson on managing mistakes. They will learn about positive and negative self-talk. Students will learn how to handle mistakes in a positive way.

Third Grade: Students will participate in lesson 9 from the “Too Good for Drugs” program. This lesson focuses on stress management including various sources of stress, symptoms of stress, and healthy ways to handle stress.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Thatcher

Well Note

University of Michigan researchers found that more meal time at home can be a strong predictor of academic success and fewer behavioral problems.

Under state attendance laws, vacations are considered unexcused absences unless specifically stated in District policy. Vacations are now referred to as Alternative Learning Experiences, or ALE, as the District values and recognizes the learning that can take place with travel. Click here to apply for an ALE.
