GMS Weekly Newsletter

March 13, 2023

Greetings, GMS Families -

I hope the four-day weekend was enjoyable for the students. Having the day off after the time change, was really nice. We will wrap-up scheduling items this week (for rising 7th and 8th graders). Current 6th graders will enter their schedule requests tomorrow/Tuesday (3/14) at school. Current 7th graders will enter their requests this Wednesday (3/15). We bumped this back one extra day due to the long, four-day weekend. They did not get much time to speak with their teachers first, if needed.

LIVE WELL
Marijuana changes the physical make-up of the brain and can lower IQ by 5 points. Researchers have found adolescents who abuse marijuana have less brain volume, or gray matter, in the orbitofrontal cortex which is responsible for decision making.

8th GRADE EXIT SURVEY
Each year we ask students in grades 3, 6, 8, and 12 to reflect on their overall experiences in their respective buildings in the form of a brief survey. The GMS 8th gr survey will be completed during the week of April 11. The information will allow building and district leaders to also reflect on the student experiences at each building and respond accordingly. A list of survey questions can be found here.

GMS DRAMA CLUB
The drama club has three sold out shows, so we have added a Saturday (3/25) matinee at 2pm. Those tickets will go on sale at 5pm tomorrow/Tuesday (3/14). Use this link: https://www.showtix4u.com/event-details/71694 Play/Musical dates are March 23, 24, and 25.
