GHS Weekly Newsletter

GHS Families,

Happy Spring Break! I hope everyone has a safe and happy break. Please take time to relax and reset for the final push of the school year. Reminder that the third grading period ends today and we will transition to the final grading period when we return from break.

This year we would like to start a new tradition for our 2024 graduating seniors. We asking family, friends, staff and community members to write letters to individual graduates. Our goal is to provide the opportunity for people to leave a lasting message that our seniors can keep forever. If you are interested and willing, please mail or drop off your letters to GHS by Wednesday, May 15th. Each letter must be in a sealed envelope with the students name on it.

If you plan to mail your letter, please use the information below:

School Closure and Solar Eclipse Viewing

Dear Granville School District Parents and Guardians,

We hope this message finds you well and ready for a Spring Break with your students. We would like to share some information related to the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024:

  1. School Closure for Professional Development:

  • On April 8, the Granville Schools will be closed for a professional development day. This date was moved from a later April date at the beginning of this school year. No school for students on April 8!

  1. Solar Eclipse Viewing Opportunity:

  • A total solar eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! To make this celestial event memorable for our students, we have prepared the following:

  • Solar Eclipse Glasses: Each student will receive a pair of solar eclipse viewing glasses. These glasses were generously donated through a partnership between the Granville Education Foundation and the Granville Public Library. We truly appreciate their support for these glasses and so much more they do for our schools!

  • 7th Grade Science Presentations: Our 7th-grade science classes are diligently working on informative presentations about the eclipse. These presentations will include a brochure with essential tips for safe eclipse viewing that will come home with each student.

*Safety First: While observing the solar eclipse, it’s crucial to follow safety guidelines. Encourage your child to use the provided glasses and avoid looking directly at the sun without protection.

New School Transportation APP

We are switching over to a new app for transportation purposes. This link will take you to important information regarding Tyler Technologies.

Student Parking Update

Please know that we are sold out of assigned student parking spots. Students who do not have a pass have two options for parking. Students may use the baseball lot but must remain off the gravel. Additional parking is located between the softball fields and tennis courts.

Counselor Update

College 101- Class of 2025

Last week, the school counselors covered financial aid in all Government classes. Students were encouraged to explore a scholarship database and begin searching for potential scholarships (see links below). All students in AP Government were invited to a make-up session during late arrival this week. For those students who could not attend that session, they are welcome to stop in the counseling office and collect the handouts from that session. Finally, when students return from spring break in April, all juniors are invited to set up an individual check-in meeting with their school counselor in order to talk about postsecondary planning. Sign up links will be posted in Schoology for these meetings when students return from break. Check out the links below for scholarship database searching:
