GES Weekly Newsletter

GES Families,

Whether you are traveling or staying close to home, please enjoy a restful and relaxing break. The last nine weeks of the school year come and go so very quickly, and we all need as much energy as possible. Please note, students and staff return on Tuesday, April 2, and students have no school on Monday, April 8 (more info below). Be safe wherever you are during spring break!

Have a great weekend!

ACE LEADER TRAIT FOR THE WEEK

Blue Ace Leaders are excited about learning.

TRANSPORTATION APP FAQ

If your child does or should ever need to ride a bus to or from school, you will want to have downloaded the new transportation app. Click here for details.

WHY DOES GES HAVE A BOOK MACHINE?

The GES Book Machine, located across from the library, provides students with a choice book once they have earned a book coin. Coins can be earned by demonstrating strides in literacy growth or engagement. They can also be earned for prolonged demonstration of Ace Leader traits. Our goal is that receiving books from the book machine encourages students to engage in new and exciting literature while recognizing the value of being an Ace Leader and an Ace Reader.

APRIL 8- SOLAR ECLIPSE/ NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS

We would like to share some information related to the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024:

  • School Closure for Professional Development:

  • On April 8, the Granville Schools will be closed for a professional development day. This date was moved from a later April date at the beginning of this school year. No school for students on April 8!

  • Solar Eclipse Viewing Opportunity:

  • A total solar eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! To make this celestial event memorable for our students, we have prepared the following:

  • Solar Eclipse Glasses: Each student will receive a pair of solar eclipse viewing glasses. These glasses were generously donated through a partnership between the Granville Education Foundation and the Granville Public Library. We truly appreciate their support for these glasses and so much more they do for our schools!

  • 7th Grade Science Presentations: Our 7th-grade science classes are diligently working on informative presentations about the eclipse. These presentations will include a brochure with essential tips for safe eclipse viewing that will come home with each student.

  • Safety First: While observing the solar eclipse, it’s crucial to follow safety guidelines. Encourage your child to use the provided glasses and avoid looking directly at the sun without protection.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER

STRATEGY OF THE MONTH

In April students will be introduced to yoga. They will learn about some poses to use to help calm down when experiencing strong emotions. (click here) In addition, I will review the strategies that they have been learning throughout the year.

CLASSROOM LESSONS IN MARCH

All Grades: During the month of April, I will be sharing with students the legally-required lesson related to sexual abuse prevention. Classroom teachers will share in their newsletters when their specific lessons will occur. Please reach out with any questions.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Thatcher

WELL NOTE

Nutrition research indicates that particular cognitive abilities and mood states are positively influenced by water consumption. Even young children can learn the importance and habits of appropriate water consumption.
