INFORMATION RELATED TO SOLAR ECLIPSE ON April 8, 2024

  1. School Closure for Professional Development:

  • On April 8, the Granville Schools will be closed for a professional development day. This date was moved from a later April date at the beginning of this school year. No school for students on April 8!

  1. Solar Eclipse Viewing Opportunity:

  • A total solar eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! To make this celestial event memorable for our students, we have prepared the following:

  • Solar Eclipse Glasses: Each student will receive a pair of solar eclipse viewing glasses. These glasses were generously donated through a partnership between the Granville Education Foundation and the Granville Public Library. We truly appreciate their support for these glasses and so much more they do for our schools!

  • 7th Grade Science Presentations: Our 7th-grade science classes are diligently working on informative presentations about the eclipse. These presentations will include a brochure with essential tips for safe eclipse viewing that will come home with each student.

*Safety First: While observing the solar eclipse, it’s crucial to follow safety guidelines. Encourage your child to use the provided glasses and avoid looking directly at the sun without protection.

SCHOLARSHIP for the Michael Dean Gibbs (MDG) Foundation

Scholarship opportunities for Licking County students to pursue extracurricular activities and community projects.  Founded by graduates of Licking County schools, the MDG Foundation honors the legacy of

Michael Dean Gibbs, a former resident of Licking County, who passed away in 2018 from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Our vision is to see all students exploring their potential, discovering their passion, and including others along the way. The MDG Foundation promotes and funds students’ interests in a broad array of activities and projects. Our funding can be used for tuition, fees,

equipment, uniforms, supplies, or anything else that empowers students to pursue an activity or project.

For example, we have awarded thousands of dollars to students to start karate, continue dance lessons, take up tumbling, complete an Eagle Scout project, and attend summer camps. Click here for more information and how to apply or nominate: https://www.michaeldeangibbs.org/

They review and select scholarship recipients on a quarterly basis, and scholarships are currently available for consideration through April 15, 2024.

These options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Future absences can be reported at any time.

ALE POLICY (aka vacation days)

Families taking vacations during the year can now apply to have up to five days a year counted as excused absences. Vacations are now referred to as Alternative Learning Experiences, or ALE, as the District values and recognizes the learning that can take place with travel. A family can include as many as five students on the form. The excused days can be used together in one ALE or at different times in multiple ALE’s. ALE forms can be rejected if the student(s) has attendance issues or academic concerns that do not warrant excusal by Granville Schools. https://forms.office.com/r/F4iNHH1F32

TRACK

Beautiful weather for our first meet of the season. It was a great opportunity for our new track athletes to learn how meets typically run and try what they are learning in practice. We saw a lot of good things with more to come. Many athletes were away for Spring Break, but Granville still had a large contingent to face Rushville, who is not on Break and a very good team, along with the smaller Holy Trinity. The top four athletes and top two relays in this tri-meet scored. Both our boys and girls came away with team victories.
