DAY OF CARING

 

For the United Way Day of Caring, Key Club is running a fundraiser in the Granville School District. Kipp Journey Academy is an elementary school in downtown Columbus. The school does not require the children to buy school supplies because a lot of the time the families cannot afford it. Kipp Journey Academy is always in need of school supplies such as pencils, crayons and notebooks. There is a box at the Ace for you to place your donated supplies. Contact Ms. Shaffer if you would like more information.

 

BLUE AND WHITE OKTOBERFEST

 

For those attending the Athletic Boosters' Blue and White Oktoberfest this Saturday, September 21, at Abe's Automotive Showroom, 426 S. Main Street (next to Ross' Market and Knuckleheads) please ENTER event from the BIKE PATH side of the building. Also, please park at the back and side of Abe's. Thank you for your cooperation and support of our student-athletes!

 

VOLUNTEER

 

Friday, September 27 is the United Way’s Day of Caring. Any students who think they would like to sign up to volunteer for a variety of community projects from noon until 5:00, please see Ms. Shaffer today during break for more information.

 

FUNDRAISERS

 

The Volleyball team has scheduled a fundraiser at the Red Oak on September 25, all day. Red Oak will donate 15% of each sale to Volley for the Cure. See the attached flyer.

 

Use the second attached flyer at the Cherry Valley Road Bob Evans on Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Bob Evans will donate 15% of each sale to the football program.

 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

PSAT REGISTRATION

 

PSAT registration for any student in grades 9 – 11 ends today. Students who want to take the PSAT (Preliminary SAT) should bring a check for $16 (made out to GHS) to Mrs. Seidell in the Counseling Office before the end of the school day. The PSAT is a practice run for the actual SAT college admissions test. All freshmen through juniors are highly encouraged to take this test! The PSAT will be given during the school day on Wednesday, October 16, at GHS.

 

ROBOTICS

 

A message from the Granville Robotics Boosters:Parents and interested parties: There will be a Granville Robotics Booster meeting this coming Tuesday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the project center at the Middle School.  We will talk about the Robotics program and what to expect.  Items discussed will be our purpose and how we can support the Robotics program; discuss the various committees and hold elections.    There will also be a Q&A time allotted. CLUB INFO

 

The Varsity G Club Leadership Board workshop was changed to Monday during fifth and sixth period lunch. Board reps should stop and see Mr. Bennett for an information sheet.

 

La Chatelaine has been changed to September 28. The bus will be leaving at 3:30 p.m. Sign-up sheet is outside the French room. Sign up by the end of the day today with permission slip.

 

SPORTS INFO

 

Granville High School’s Boys’ Golf team traveled to Blacklick Woods Metro Golf Course to compete in the LCL Post-season tournament yesterday.  The Blue Aces shot a 329 to finish in second place behind Johnstown’s 321 and well ahead of third place Heath (347).  Nick Contini completed his season sweep of LCL competition by winning medalist honors with a one-over par 73 and being named Player of the Year for the league.  Alex Meurer’s 83, Tyler Dunfee’s 86 and Matthew Jardell’s 87 completed the scoring for the Blue Aces.  All six Granville golfers finished in the top 24 of the event and were the only team to do so. 

 

JV Boys’ Soccer won 2 to nothing, with goals scored by Sam Choice (2) and Evan Lewandowski. Luke Bauer had seven saves.

 

Granville’s Boys’ Varsity Soccer team lost a hard fought battle at Mansfield Christian Thursday night 3-0.  Sam Gress and Nathaniel Fowler split the time in goal and recorded two saves and three saves respectively.  Next up, Licking Valley at home Thursday, September 26.  Go Blue!

 

Thursday night the Field Hockey team hosted Olentangy High School. The Varsity lost 2 to 1 and the JV lost 3 to 2. They will host Stow on Saturday. JV start time is noon and Varsity 1:30.

 

Girls’ Tennis improved to 11-1 with a 5-0 victory over Mt. Vernon last night.

 

The Freshman, JV, and Varsity Volleyball teams all won last night at home against Northridge. Becca Flathers recorded 11 kills and five aces, followed by Emilee Skerbetz with seven kills and 3.5 blocks. The Varsity team improved to 13-3, and is tied for first in the league. 

 

The Granville Football Team is selling Eye/Body Markers.  The pack of three comes with Blue, White, and Pink for $10.00.  Show your school spirit at upcoming sporting events such as “The Ultimate Goal,” “Volley for the Cure,” and the Football games.  They can be purchased at tonight’s home football game or contact Kathy Cecil[email protected]or 587-4177 if you would like them sooner.

 

Today is the final day of the Volley for the Cure t-shirt. Find your favorite volleyball player and order a t-shirt before it’s too late. Anyone wearing a 2013 Volley for the Cure t-shirt will be admitted to the October 1 Volley for the Cure match against Lakewood for free.

 

Attention Granville High School student-athletes.  Would you like to be involved with the toughest sport offered to Granville students?  If so, come to the sign-up meeting for the Granville High School Wrestling team in Coach Bright's room (106) immediately after school on Monday, September 23.  If you are in a fall sport, please stop by Coach Bright's room to sign-up and get information.

Sophomores, do you want to explore different pathways for your future?  C-TEC invites you to explore your future at their annual Open House on Thursday, September 26 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity for you and your family and to learn about the career-technical programs available at C-TEC.  You can talk with administrators, counselors and teachers and learn what C-TEC has to offer through satellite, secondary and adult education programs.  You can also check out C-TEC’s labs and classrooms, state-of-the-art technology, and visit with career and financial aid specialists.  So, what do you want to do with your future?  Come to C-TEC at 150 Price Road in Newark, Thursday evening, September 26, and explore your possibilities.  ​

Juniors and Sophomores! You are welcome to attend the college representative visits that occur in the Counseling Office. We want you to start exploring college options. To register, sign up with Mrs. Seidell in the Counseling Office.

 

BATTLE OF THE BANDS

 

The Newark Library is offering a FREE “Battle of the Bands” Competition and Concert on Saturday, October 19 from 2:00 to 4:30 pm.  The concert will be outside on the Newark Library’s grounds in front of an audience of all ages.  Audience members are encouraged to bring a lawn chair for seating.  Interested bands, battle it out for a chance to win a total of $275.00 in VISA gift cards; the Runner-Up Band will win a total of $175.00 in VISA gift cards!  Half of the band members must be age 18 or under & must perform at least 1 original song to be judged.  Bands must provide their own equipment except for the sound system, which will be provided for use.  Call 740.349.5552 with questions or stop in the Newark Library to receive rules and an entry form.  Each band member’s Entry Form submission deadline is October 15, 2013.  There is a limit of 5 bands to participate.   

 

GRANVILLE REC CLASSES

 

SAT and ACT Math Review & Workshop | #130230
Whether your son/daughter plans to take the SAT, the ACT, or both, this course will provide them with the skills necessary to score well on the math section. The course is broken into two phases, the first of which reviews all essential skills and the second allows them to practice actual test questions and receive help with the questions they cannot answer. Proctored tests are provided throughout the course to track each student's progress and prepare them for the real test. All classes are taught by Ryan Durcik, a full-time tutor with years of experience and a degree in Mechanical Engineering from George Washington University. Ryan is an expert at standardized tests, receiving the fifth highest MathCounts score in all of Ohio and scoring a perfect 800 on his SAT II Math.
