GIS Weekly Newsletter

March 9, 2023

Dear GIS Families,
This is a reminder that GEVSD schools will not be in session on Friday, March 10 and Monday, March 13. We hope our students use this time to relax as we head into the 4th quarter of the school year. As spring events come closer, we will be sharing specific details and information with our families. Enjoy the long weekend!

Take care,
Tracie Lees

NEWS & INFORMATION

Rising 7th Grade SCHEDULING for GMS 2023-2024:
We kicked-off scheduling for 7th grade this week at GIS. It was fun to see all of the students' faces as they were highly engaged and focused. Students will enter their course requests for 7th grade NEXT Tuesday (3/14) while at school (Ms. Baker will have the details). In April, GMS will send out an email asking that families verify course requests in PowerSchool. Schedules will be ready in August for student orientation on August 15-16 from 9:00-11:00am.

Several scheduling resources are already posted on the GMS website. You can access them by using this link: https://www.granvilleschools.org/SchedulingInformation.aspx Please contact Mrs. Lisa Ormond or Ms. Molly McClenathan for any questions you may have during the process.

Auction Message from PTO President Andrea Whitt:
With the Biennial Auction in April we are gathering silent auction donations. I have included a Signupgenius link with basket ideas that you can sign up for. We have baskets left over from the 2020 auction (That COVID canceled) which we will be including. We are still looking for some Live Auction items (think big ticket items).

If you have any connections to get tickets to sporting events in Ohio please message me. Thanks, this will be an amazing auction!

Triple P: Coping with Teen Emotions:
Coping with Teenagers’ Emotions gives some practical suggestions to help teach teens how to manage their emotions. When teens become emotional, it can be difficult for parents to calm them down. The important thing is for teens to learn how to calm themselves when they get upset about something. Parents can help by acknowledging the emotional experience and providing appropriate support without being intrusive. Learning to manage emotions is an important life skill! This program will explain how parents can use some simple positive parenting strategies to help prevent problems and to cope with teens’ emotional behavior if it occurs. Click here for more information.

Please make every effort to have your child at school on time. If your child arrives after testing has begun, he or she will not be permitted to enter the class and will need to test during a make-up session. Click here to access a copy of the schedule.

COUNSELOR CONNECTION (A Note from Ms. Baker):

Body Positivity for Kids
Body positivity is about loving yourself and others regardless of physical appearance. It encourages self-positivity, acceptance and health. Body positivity takes the focus away from looks and identifies people by their strengths and non-physical characteristics. Check out these tips for how to talk to your child about body positivity.
