GMS Weekly Newsletter

May 21, 2023

Greetings, GMS Families -

I wanted to give a special shout out to MSP (middle school parents) for the wonderful staff appreciation items recently. Thank you to anyone who helped and/or donated. We really enjoyed each day.

Wow, the end is here! Tomorrow/Monday (5/22) is the last day of actual classes. Tuesday, we will have an informal year-end awards assembly, and then students will leave for their class field trips. Wednesday, we will start with the talent show and then handout yearbooks.

It has been a pleasure working with your children this past school year. As always, please let me know of any questions, concerns or to share a positive comment.

Respectfully,

Lisa Ormond
Principal, GMS

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

REMINDER****SURVEY
We are asking families to complete an SDL survey within the next week or so. SDL stands for self-determined learning. This survey will help us better understand how students, teachers, and parents feel about students having a bigger voice in their learning experiences at school. We need everyone's thoughts on the questions in this survey to help us understand how you feel about education this year, and how we could change education to support students’ agency.

YEAR-END WRAP-UP
It is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of the school year. Our students have done an amazing job displaying the Portrait of a Graduate trait's throughout this school year. Students were recognized by their teachers for displaying the following: Resilience, Adaptability, Empathy, Critical-Thinking, Responsibility, and Collaboration. During the second semester, teachers recognized our students 446 times with student shout outs. A drawing was held with every student who has received a shout out this semester being entered, and 5 winners of a Target gift card were drawn. The winners of the semester drawing were:
  • Gigi Stone
  • Luke Bosse
  • Carson Fox
  • Thomas Dement
  • Margaret McDonald

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
The last day of school, May 24, will once again be an early dismissal. GMS should dismiss around 11:30am.

WELL NOTE
Summer is the perfect time to expand your student’s curiosity. Engage their interests and passions through field trips, books, meeting people in the field, and exploring any available resources. Curiosity needs to be nurtured all year long.

Our Futures in Licking County - Prevention Survey
Since 2010, Our Futures has sponsored evidenced- based prevention programs for school personnel, students, and parents. Hopefully, many of you are aware of the Good Behavior Game, PAX-it Notes, the Triple P Positive Parenting Program and Calm Classroom.  Our ultimate goal is to reduce substance and child abuse.

Many of you have seen the impact that several years of dealing with Covid has had on our community---both in our schools and in the broader community itself. Our Futures needs your help and we are asking you to take just a few minutes of your time to respond to this post pandemic survey. We are hoping that your responses will help us to identify additional programs that Our Futures can make available to our schools and parents. If you would take just a few minutes to respond to the following two questions by clicking on the survey monkey link below, it would be greatly appreciated! Please complete the survey by June 5. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/7C5NBS6

GRANVILLE CUP
Check attachments for the information about the Granville Cup which is the fundraiser for the boys and girls golf teams. No granville school golfers are allowed to golf this year since they're expected to work at the outing which is Sunday July 30th. With your help spreading the word and getting teams signed up we hope to reach the 140 golfers target. We hope all of the parents are able to play or work at the outing. There will be a sign up for jobs at the event coming out soon. We plan on making this a fun day for all attending.
