Granville Schools is offering a book study for parents of current K-12 students. We will be reading and discussing How to Raise an Adult by Julie Lythcott-Haims. The kickoff session will be held March 6 at 6:30 PM at Granville Elementary School. Participants will meet regularly in cohorts to discuss sections of the book. Click here to register.

PTO AUCTION VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Save the date! The 2023 PTO Auction takes place April 22. However, we need volunteers to make this a successful event. Each classroom at GES and GIS will create a project to be sold at the auction; volunteers are needed to plan and help create the projects. Click here if you would like to volunteer to help with a class auction project. More information about the auction will be provided very soon.
 
KIDS HEART CHALLENGE
Kids Heart Challenge is under way at our school! We have some exciting things planned this year to get us moving, helping others and having fun. SPRING LACROSSE REGISTRATION IS CLOSING SOON- REGISTER TODAY!

K-12 PARENT BOOK STUDY

RAISING CONFIDENT CHILDREN
"Raising Confident, Competent Children" is a Triple P seminar that helps lower the stress of parenting by equipping parents to: Encourage confidence in their children; Help their children reach their own potential; Enable their children to get along well with others. This FREE online seminar is February 21 from 6:30 to 8:30. Click here for more information. 
 
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Registration for the 2023-2024 school year will be February 21-24. All registration will be completed online. Click here for more information.
 
3RD GRADE READING AND MATH ASSESSMENTS
State-required reading and math assessments for our third graders begin in March. Reading assessments will be March 28 and 29. Math assessments will be in April (dates TBD). These assessments are in two parts which are 90 minutes each, taken over two sessions. Teachers will be sharing their testing dates and times with their classes and parents.
 
SUPERGAMES VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The final days of school will be here before we know it! And here at GES we tend to mark the end of another wonderful year with a celebration of physical activities and inflatable fun. Supergames will be on May 8 this year. We require many, many volunteers to pull of this fantastic event. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact your child's teacher. More details will be shared as they are available.
 
COUNSELOR'S CORNER

STRATEGY OF THE MONTH
Students will learn about positive self-talk and affirmations when I visit them this month. They will hear examples of how to flip a negative thought into a positive thought. Using positive thoughts regularly can bring positive changes on a daily basis.
 
CLASSROOM LESSONS IN FEBRUARY
  • Kindergarten: This month we will work on lesson six in our “Too Good for Drugs” program. The topic will cover friendship. Students will describe characteristics of a good friend and discover ways to initiate a conversation.
  • First Grade: This month will cover lesson six in our “Too Good for Drugs” program. The topic is on peer pressure. Students will learn strategies of how to handle peer pressure and describe safe activities to do with friends.
  • Second Grade: This month we will work on lesson six from our “Too Good for Drugs” program. This lesson will focus on peer pressure. Students will learn what peer pressure is and be given strategies of how to handle peer pressure.
  • Third Grade: This month third grade students will focus on friendships, which is lesson five from our “Too Good for Drugs” program. We will examine healthy and unhealthy qualities of friendships. In addition, students will practice how to begin, continue, and end a conversation with partners.

REMINDERS
 
SCHOOL LUNCHES
For the 2022-2023 school year, lunches at school will cost $3.00. This includes entrée, fruit, vegetable, and milk/ water. Families will need to add money to the child's online lunch account to pay for lunches. Individual milk or water is $.50. If anyone is need of assistance in purchasing lunches, please complete this form.
 
REPORTING ABSENCES
All absences need to be reported to the GES office as soon as possible. If you know in advance your child is going to be absent, please be sure to contact the GES office. It is not the responsibility of the teacher to do so. If you wish to email the teacher, please copy that email to [email protected] or call the absence line at 740-587-8102. We also accept the old fashioned, hand-written notes. 
 
PTO MEETINGS
The Granville K-6 PTO will hot regular meetings mostly on the third Tuesday of each month. Meetings will rotate between the two buildings and between morning and evening sessions. All K-6 parents are invited to join. Contact the PTO members directly at [email protected] if you have any questions. A schedule of meeting times and locations can be found here
 
VOLUNTEERING AT GES
All volunteers must complete the Volunteer Training Program found here prior to volunteering in the school, on field trips, or in another capacity. Contact your child's teacher or the GES office with any questions.
