GES Weekly Newsletter

GES Families,
?
?Next week each classroom will be visited by members of the Granville Fire Department. Visits will occur on September 21 for Kindergarten and 2nd-grade classrooms and September 22 for 1st and 3rd-grade classrooms. The first responders will be sharing with students important fire safety information, showing off their gear and equipment, and allowing for some curious questions. Opportunities such as these for students to interact with safety officials is very important. We truly appreciate the continued partnership with our local fire, EMS, and police departments. Be prepared for your child to come home next week and talk about creating a fire escape plan!

Have a great weekend!

COUNSELOR'S CORNER

STRATEGY OF THE MONTH
Each month throughout the year our students will learn about a strategy or tool to help them manage strong feelings or emotions. For September our students in all grades will learn how to do a “feelings check-in”. They will hear about the color zones from the “Zones of Regulation” program and identify what zone they are in based on their feeling(s). This will occur when I visit their classroom for their monthly lesson. Click here for a visual of the Zones check-in strategy.

CLASSROOM LESSONS IN SEPTEMBER
Kindergarten: Our first lesson from our program “Too Good For Drugs” focuses on setting goals. Students will meet “Tuggles” the bear and discuss their strengths and capabilities. They will name goals that they want to reach in the future and learn about who can help them reach those goals.
First Grade: Our first lesson from our “Too Good For Drugs” program will focus on setting reachable goals. Students will meet “Carmen” the cat and learn what a goal is, the steps necessary to reach a goal, and set a goal of their very own.
Second Grade: Our first lesson from “Too Good For Drugs” for second grade students will focus on the importance of goal setting and how to achieve those goals. They will meet “Wagner” the dog, and help Wagner learn how to reach his goals. Second graders will learn the step-by-step process in learning to reach goals.
Third Grade: Our first lesson from “Too Good For Drugs” for third graders will focus on setting personal goals. Our students will meet “Otto”, the robot, and learn that decisions are a choice, not something that is automatic. The students will learn about the steps involved in reaching a goal.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding your child through email at [email protected] or calling (740) 587-8102.
