LCHD Releases New School Guidelines

On Thursday of this week, the Licking County Health Department (LCHD) has updated their quarantine guidelines for students in schools in Licking County (attached).  The major change is highlighted below.  As was the case before, the following individuals are not required to quarantine if they are identified as a close contact of an individual with COVID-19:

  • Individuals that are fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated is defined as having two doses of Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine or one dose of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, and it has been at least 14 days since last dose of vaccine was administered.
  • Individuals that consistently wear a mask properly in a classroom setting.
  • Individuals that maintain at least 6 feet of distance from an individual with COVID-19, or at least 3 feet of distance during lunch.
  • Individuals that have been within six feet of an individual with COVID-19 for less than 15 cumulative minutes in a 24-hour period.
  • Individuals that have tested positive for COVID-19 through a viral test (antigen or PCR) within 90 days of the date of their exposure to an individual with COVID-19.

Individuals that are exposed to COVID-19 and meet the definition of a close contact should quarantine for a period of 10 days from the date of their last exposure to an individual with COVID-19 if they do not meet any of the five criteria above. For individuals that are close contacts in a classroom setting, they must adhere to one of the three following options:

  • The individual can complete their quarantine period at home and not attend school or participate in extracurricular activities for the entire 10 days from exposure.
  • The individual can return to school and extracurricular activities on day 8 of their quarantine period if they test negative for COVID-19 through a viral (PCR or antigen) test at least 5 days after their school exposure.  Granville Schools has a limited number of test kits available at each school building for families that need to test after 5 days of a quarantine period.  Please contact the school office to obtain one of these test kids if needed for this scenario.
  • The individual can return to school immediately if they do not have COVID-19 symptoms and they wear a mask (properly) in school for the duration of their quarantine period. In this case, the student cannot participate in extracurricular activities during their quarantine period, and they should remain at home when they are not in school.   This is the updated portion of the guidance from LCHD that offers another pathway to allow students to stay in school but limit potential spread.

We are also aware that vaccines may be available to students aged 5 – 11 very soon in Licking County.  Once those details are available, we will be sure to pass that information along for interested families.  Thank you for working with us to provide an in-person learning experience for our children this year!
