Transportation
Granville Schools welcome parents/guardians and families as partners, working together to ensure our students arrive to and from school in a safe manner. Our buses travel over 1,500 miles per day. We want every trip to be a safe one!
Bus Route Organizational Tool
We will continue to use Traversa software to support the routing app called My Ride K-12. You will be able to access student bus information by logging in to My Ride K-12 through the web or downloading the app to your smartphone. You will have access to your student's bus number, driver's name, bus stops and pick up and drop off times. In addition, on the app, you will be able to see the location of the bus on the route. The transportation department can send notifications (through the phone app) of changes that may impact on your student's route, and you also will be able to send emails directly to the transportation department. See below or My Ride K-12 Parent User Guide Flyer.pdf to view the instructional flyer and download the app for your phone.

Transportation Staff
Our bus drivers are the first and last school staff to see your child each day! They are professionals, like your child’s teacher or principal, who receive certification to operate a school bus. Bus drivers must successfully pass a written test, a driving test, a physical examination, and federal and state background checks prior to driving. They must also complete classroom and on-the-bus training annually.
Student Management
The most challenging part of driving a school bus is managing student behaviors while driving the school bus. At the beginning of each school year, the bus drivers coordinate with the teachers at GIS and GES to develop a Bus Vision. This is a reminder for the students that the school day continues while they are riding the school bus. The bus Vision statements include:
- Sitting on your pockets in your assigned seat.
- Facing forward & keeping the aisle clear.
- Using kind words in a polite inside voice.
- Eating & drinking should wait until you are off the bus.
- Safe hands & feet that you keep to yourself.
- A feeling of calm and safety on the bus.
- Following the bus driver’s instructions.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier & Safety Administration, the safest from of travel for students in in a school bus. To be in the safest place on the school bus, students need to stay seated while the bus is moving, face forward, and stay out of the aisle. The construction of the school bus, specifically the seats, make the forward facing, seated, out of the aisle position the safest place on the bus. Please encourage your student to stay off the floor, out of the aisle, and not leaning over the back of the seats. Also, encourage your student to maintain a low volume voice while on the school bus. The fewer distraction there are in the school bus, the easier it is for the bus driver to focus on the traffic outside the school bus. Students should also leave their phones in their backpacks. Phones are not only distracting to other students, but they are a source of distraction for the bus driver when the phone becomes a problem between students. The school day starts and stops on when the student gets on and off the school bus. The school policy is that phones are not to be out during the school day. This includes on the school bus. Thank you for all your support by encouraging your student to follow the Bus Vision. This will make the school bus ride a safer place for all students and the bus driver.
