District Style Guide

Granville Schools website provides in-depth information about all aspects of the school district. Each Granville school has its own page within the district site. The website offers current news and information from throughout the district. District, individual schools and athletic calendars offer a comprehensive listing of events. The site provides board policies, district & school forms, including those necessary for registering students, and a variety of education-related links. Partnerships with supporting organizations and the greater Granville community are also highlighted on the site.

Facebook
Granville Schools uses Facebook to connect with families and the community to share information, including breaking news and recognition.

Twitter
Granville Schools uses Twitter to promote various activities, monitor feedback and/or start a conversation. The district Twitter feed also recognizes students, staff and school-related groups. Some of our schools, principals and athletics have their own Twitter accounts as well.

Instagram
Granville Schools uses this social media format to visually share the story of what’s happening in the district through photographs.

The decision to close schools for a day/portion of a day is made by the Superintendent.  The district communicates this information by sending automated calls to parents/guardians through School Messenger (if you are not signed up for School Messenger, please see the "School Messenger" tab on the Communication page of our website. ) These calls will notify families of the specifics of school closings or delays.  In addition, we communicate the information on our website, social media and local television stations.  

Emergency Closure Plan adopted by the Granville Board of Education  in July, 2025.

We are allowed three (3) days for unexpected closures such as traditional snow days.
In accordance with State law, the Board’s plan for emergency closure for the current school year includes a plan for the maximum number of hours, equivalent to another three (3) school days, to be made up as virtual learning days. These virtual learning days would be implemented after the first three days of unexpected closures/snow days. The plan details include:

•  Granville Schools’ staff will make all learning materials accessible on the district-designated learning management system (LMS, aka “Schoology”) by 9:00am on any virtual learning day that is identified by the Superintendent or designee. Teachers will host synchronous office hours via Zoom to provide real-time instruction and support to students. Teachers will communicate the hours they are available via Schoology during the hours of 9:00am to 3:00pm.
• Students’ completion of the necessary school assignments by the due date posted on Schoology will be evidence of attendance for the virtual learning days. 
• All materials will be posted on Schoology to ensure equitable access for all students. Students with special needs (IEP/504/ELL/etc.) will also have access to case managers, intervention specialists, or ELL instructors via office hours as stipulated above. 
• The Superintendent or designee will notify staff, students, and parents via the school district notification system (School Messenger) of the status of school and the virtual learning day plans. Contact information for staff in the form of Zoom links and email addresses will be posted in teacher Schoology pages for students and families to access. 
• Assistant Superintendent Ryan Bernath (rbernath@granvilleschools.org) will be the contact for internet connectivity issues.

Staff members receive a weekly email update from Assistant Superintendent, Ryan Bernath, in addition to weekly email communications from Director of Human Resources, Brian Petrie, and their building principal.  

The Granville School District maintains a comprehensive Crisis Communication Plan and has an expert in crisis communication on retainer to provide support. The plan is updated regularly to reflect changes to technology, homeland security and local safety services policies and procedures.

 School Messenger is the district’s family phone call notification system used primarily for emergencies, delays and school closings.

Recently, we added text messaging capability to School Messenger Communicate, the system we use now to deliver emails and phone calls with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts and more.  The system is configured to send text message to cell phone numbers whose recipients have agreed to receive them.  To opt-in to this free service, please do the following in the School Messenger App (to access the app click https://go.schoolmessenger.com/#/home) or click this link https://home.schoolmessenger.com and do the following:

• Confirm we have a valid phone number for your wireless device that can receive SMS text messages
• Text "y" or "Yes" to our School Messenger Short Code number  - 67587.  

If you already have an account and would like to add more emails or phone numbers to your School Messenger account, please follow these directions:

Click the icon in the top right with your initials, then select preferences.  Under "contact information" you have the ability to add additional email addresses or phone numbers.

The Blue Ace Newsletter is delivered electronically to staff and is mailed to all households in the Granville School District.  This newsletter shares the positive stories of student accomplishments and provides updates on District finances and more. 

Communication Services works with local media to provide regular information regarding story ideas and features, honors and achievements and other communication.

A weekly email distributed to subscribers from the building principal, which features news and information regarding school events,  including sections for guidance counselors and athletics.
