The Granville High School Theater Department's production of Disney's NEWSIES will be presented on May 1st and 2nd at 7:00 p.m. and May 2nd at 2pm in the Granville High School Theater. Newsies is a musical based on the Disney Film. Set in 1899, the show follows a boy named Jack Kelly and his experience being a news boy on the streets of New York.

Jack Kelley leads a group of down on their luck orphans in Manhattan. As Joseph Pulitzer, the publisher of The New York World, raises the prices of newspapers, Jack rallies the newsies to strike against the abusive conditions and make a stand for what is right. Themes of empowerment and social justice are shown throughout the show. The play shows that teens and children can make a difference each day.

This show is under the direction of Sara Wiper Rodocker and Stefanie Stanton with musical direction by Kristen Snyder and Bruce Piper.  The technical direction comes from Tim Stanton.  Stefanie Stanton provided the choreography. Olivia Christian is Production Stage Manager with the Assistant Stage Managers are Anabelle Burt and Amelia Shuler. The student directors are Sam Hannig, Max Morrow, and Niko O’Dell. Jack Kelly is played by Grant Timmons, Crutchie is played by Max Holtsberry, Davey is played by Andrew Busack, and Katherine is played by Clara Dandurand.
