The ACT

All 4-year colleges and universities in the U.S accept ACT results. The ACT is a national college admissions examination that consists of 215 multiple-choice questions in the subject areas of English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science. The ACT Plus Writing includes the four subject area tests plus a 40-minute Writing Test.

The GHS School Counselors strongly recommend that students take the ACT with the writing portion.

Length of ACT: 3 hours to complete, including a short break (or just over four hours if you are taking the ACT Plus Writing).

Registration Fees: Regular deadline is $85 with writing. Late fee is an additional $36.
Fee waivers are available for students on free or reduced lunch with GHS. See Mrs. Frank in the Counseling Office for the fee waiver info.

Additional score reporting options, such as a detailed question and answer report, could be available for an additional fee. For more information, click here.

When to Take ACT and SAT
At the latest, junior students should take both the ACT and SAT for the first time in the winter and/or spring of their junior year. Once those scores are known, the students should retake whichever test they performed best on to see what score improvements can be made. All college testing should be complete by the fall of senior year.

Pay close attention to registration deadlines so that you are registered and ready to take the test on time!
