GIS Teachers Honored with Awards

Three GIS teachers were honored with awards at the Granville Schools Staff Convocation on Aug. 17.

Kerri Wyant, 6th grade science teacher, received the Transcendia Inc. Excellence in Education Award. The Granville Education Foundation presented the Jody VanTine Award to two teachers this year - Amanda Tucker, art, and Jeanna Giovannelli, gifted ELA.

The Jody VanTine Award was established to recognize distinguished and significant educational contributions made by educators in Granville Schools. This award is given annually by the GEF to commemorate the high ideals that characterized the life and career of the late Jody VanTine, who was a second-grade teacher at GES.

Amanda was nominated by the parent of a shy and anxious student who bloomed through the opportunities and experiences created for her in the art room. “My family is incredibly grateful for her passion and dedication,” the nomination said of Amanda. “Granville is lucky to have her!”

Jenna was also nominated by a parent who saw their student benefit from her rich and varied project-based learning approach to curriculum. “This teacher demands much from her students,” the nomination said of Jenna. “She also nurtures them so that over their three years together, they become like a family.”

Congratulations to all three GIS teachers!
