Students Enjoy FUTP60 National Summit

A great idea earned Colden Kadlic $1,000 for the GMS Fuel Up To Play 60 (FUTP60) Program.

During the Innovation Challenge at the FUTP60 National Summit in Minneapolis this summer, Colden had an idea to make a connection between farmers and students by sponsoring a drawing with the winning GMS student – or students – spending a day on a local farm. The eighth-grader’s idea to show students how food is produced was one of 40 winners!

“We don’t live on a farm, but we do have goats and chickens at home,” Colden said. He explained the funds will be used to promote the drawing and cover other expenses.

Colden’s brother Luc Kadlic, a seventh grade student, was the Ohio Ambassador to the summit, and Sean Sheehan, a sixth grader, also attended with advisor and GIS physical education teacher Meredith Ervin.

Among the students’ favorite activities at the summit were running out of the tunnel at the Minnesota Vikings’ stadium, where the next Super Bowl will be played. In addition to working on leadership skills, they filmed a commercial and had a snowball battle with NFL players.

“That was a blast!” Luc said of the epic snowball fight.

Fuel Up to Play 60 empowers students to eat healthy, be active and make positive changes in their schools and communities.
