PD Opportunity at GEVSD for Summer 2018

First, for those staff members in grades K-6 who expressed interest earlier this year, we have received TENTATIVE approval to bring Teacher’s College to Granville Schools the week of August 13-17, 2018! We will be working with Muskingum University to provide graduate credit(s) for that experience. Once that is solidified, we will communicate our next steps. For K-6 staff who did not express interest, we will let you know if spots become available on a first- come, first-served basis soon. We are allowed only 25 seats per instructor with Teacher’s College.

Our second PD option is we will hold a PBL Academy of our own here this summer similar to last year. PBL coaches will be on site to help you with the design aspects of your project and answer any questions you have. We anticipate those times to be 2-3 days and we will offer 1.0 Muskingum grad credits for those that attend all week (pending approval from MU). This PBL Academy will be offered between the dates of June 4-15 and we will be scheduling with the ESSCO for those very soon.

Last but not least, we will offer a variety of Technology Integration courses led by our very own Evan McCullough. These 3 courses (Level I, II and Advanced Tech Options) are described below in detail, and we will offer 2.0 Muskingum grad credits for those that complete a course (pending Muskingum approval). You will be able to enroll in more than one, but they should be taken in sequence (Level I - Level II - Advanced).

Interested? We are beginning to plan with Muskingum and set calendars for the summer. If you are interested in taking one or more of the PBL and Tech courses this summer, please fill out this survey by February 26, 2018. This is only to gauge interest so we can plan appropriately, so if you say you want to attend and plans change, no problem! Another email will be sent before Spring Break once we have specific dates and locations for all the PBL/Tech trainings and the Teacher’s College training has been finalized.

Do not hesitate to contact Evan with Tech class questions or Ryan with any questions! Thanks!—Ryan

Tech class descriptions:

Technology is playing an ever-increasing role in education! All of us can see this increase in our own district with the implementation of 1 to 1 in grades 7-12 and new hardware/software in all grades. However, technology is still only as good as the users (you and the students) put it to work to facilitate learning. To support your role in using technology during instruction, we are happy to offer for-credit technology professional development courses on site during the summer of 2018 through Muskingum University! These courses are open to all GEVSD staff.

Below you will find basic information about the courses.  This is “first-come, first-served” as there is a limit to the number in each class. Our own Evan McCullough will be the main instructor for the courses along with Beth Downing from GIS and Lindy Wicks from GES.

Courses:  All courses are Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day at one of our buildings here in the district (actual building TBD based on summer maintenance schedules). Courses will be a blend of new learning and application of that new learning to create products to use in your classes next year. We want this to be useful for you and your students!  A 1-hour lunch each day will be on your own. Course names are Level I, Level II and Advanced Tech Concepts.

Which level of class should I choose? Level II classes are for staff members that use technology regularly with students in the classroom, pick up new technology with relative ease, use Schoology on an ongoing basis, and feel confident in Office 365/Google Drive or will be able to learn Office 365/Google Drive rapidly. If most or all of this describes you, then go to Level II! If it does not, Level I is the course for you! If you have taken Level II, then the Advanced Tech Concepts course is for you! Not sure? Talk with Evan!

What will be taught? Below is a list of topics that will be addressed in each Level I or Level II course. Level II will go deeper into these areas at a more rapid pace. Advanced Tech Concepts will be a variety of topics beyond those listed below.
