The SAT

The SAT is one of the nation's most widely used college admissions tests. The SAT is taken by more than two million students every year and is accepted by virtually all colleges and universities.

The SAT measures knowledge of subjects learned in the classroom, including reading, writing, and math, and how well you can apply that knowledge outside of the classroom. The SAT helps colleges get to know you better by giving them insight into how you think, solve problems, and communicate.

Length of SAT: 3 hours plus 50 minute essay (we highly recommend taking the SAT with the Essay!)

Registration Fees: Regular deadline is $55. Late fee is an additional $30.
Fee waivers are available for students on free or reduced lunch with GHS. See Mrs. Frank in the Counseling Office for the fee waiver info.

Additional score reporting options, such as a detailed question and answer report, could be available for an additional fee. For more information, click here.

When to Take SAT and ACT
At the latest, junior students should take both the ACT and SAT for the first time in the winter and/or spring of their junior year. Once those scores are known, the students should retake whichever test they performed best on to see what score improvements can be made. All college testing should be complete by the fall of senior year.

Pay close attention to registration deadlines so that you are registered and ready to take the test on time!
