The greatest amount of financial aid will come from your student's college/university. To facilitate this process, you will need to submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and (if required by the college) the CSS Profile.
* Click for the Financial Aid Process for 2021-2022 presentation put together by the Director of Student Financial Aid Services at The Ohio State University- Newark and Central Ohio Technical College.

1. Seniors and parents, we strongly encourage you to apply for financial aid (use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid - FAFSA). Even if you think you might not qualify for much, you could be limiting other aid options and institutional aid if you do not submit your FAFSA.

2. Seniors and parents, don't forget to sign up now for your FSA ID. You will need this to complete your FAFSA application. Write it down and keep it someplace safe as you will both need it every year for which the student completes the FAFSA.
*** Do NOT use a school or work email to register for your FSA ID. ***

3. Use the FAFSA Forecaster website to get a general idea of what your family might be expected to contribute toward college.

4. Seniors may begin filing their FAFSA applications on October 1st. Be sure to familiarize yourself with each school's FAFSA filing deadline! Review the Priority FAFSA Filing Deadlines for all Ohio colleges and universities

5. Do NOT pay to fill out this application! It guides you step by step in the process, so you do not need to pay for assistance. The correct website for filing the FAFSA is http://www.fafsa.ed.gov

6. Check out this document for information on "What Happens Next" after you submit the FAFSA.

You can also get information about the FAFSA on Twitter!
